The project included the construction of 2,200 meters of 3,025mm O.D. stormwater pipeline at depths of 13 to 15 meters; all under live aircraft taxiways at Dubai International Airport (DIA), Terminal 2.
That DIA is one of the busiest airports in the world, connecting to 240 destinations and with 90 million customers annually, indicates the logistical challenges that had to be overcome. The Contractor, International Foundation Group, made 3 drives of 610 meters, 765 meters, and 825 meters, all of which were efficiently and successfully excavated by a 3,025mm diameter tunnel boring machine (TBM) from the Herrenknecht stable.
